Flint, Mich. – The Flint Firebirds announced today the hiring of Jack Sznewajs (pronounced Snev-ice) to be the Director of Broadcasting and Communications.

Sznewajs spent the 2019-20 season in Flint as the team’s color commentator and worked with the Firebirds Hockey Network in camera operations, helped conduct interviews and provided live stats for all Firebirds productions.

“Jack did a great job for us last season working alongside Dominic (Hennig),” Firebirds President Jeremy Torrey said. “He earned this opportunity and we are confident he is going to do a great job in his new role and as the play-by-play broadcaster of the Firebirds.”

Prior to his time in Flint, Sznewajs worked for the Big Ten Network and Michigan State University athletics. He graduated from MSU in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. During his time as a Spartan he broadcasted over 150 games across seven sports, including the MSU hockey team. Over the last several years, Sznewajs has worked in high school athletics across Michigan broadcasting games for the MHSAA, Fox Sports Detroit Prep Zone and the NFHS Network.

“It’s an absolute honor to work for the Firebirds,” said Sznewajs. “I grew up attending games in Plymouth when the team was the Whalers so being apart of the franchise’s continued success in Flint now is special. I want to thank the Firebirds organization for this tremendous opportunity and look forward to getting started and preparing for the upcoming season.”

Sznewajs is a native of Bloomfield Hills, Mich. He graduated high school in 2015 from the University of Detroit Jesuit and plans to relocate to Grand Blanc, Mich. this summer.
