Sarnia, ON – Sarnia Sting General Manager Dylan Seca announced today that the Hockey Club has signed forward Ryan Brown to an Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Standard Player Agreement.

After spending the 2022-23 season with the York-Simcoe Express U16 AAA team, the 5’10”, 151-pound Newmarket, Ontario native was selected by the Sting with the 17th overall pick in the 2023 OHL Priority Selection on April 21st.

Recognized for his speed and competitiveness, Brown tallied an impressive 33 goals and 24 assists through 34 regular season games played in the OMHA’s ETA league this season, placing him third in both league goal and point scoring. Brown also demonstrated his playmaking ability at the 2023 OHL Cup, held from March 29th through April 3rd, as he recorded three assists in four appearances.

“This is an exciting day for the Sarnia Sting. Ryan Brown is a player who exemplifies all the core values and attributes we look for when scouting and drafting.”  comments Seca. “He plays with passion, is an excellent skater and has great skill around the net. As we’ve seen throughout the playoffs, these qualities are so important. We are thrilled to welcome Ryan and the entire Brown family to Sarnia and Sting Nation.”

OHL Central Scouting says: “Ryan is a dog-on-a-bone type of player as he is always moving and is putting relentless pressure on the opposition. He is a very good skater with excellent quickness that allows him to get in on the forecheck and create havoc. He has good skills that allow him to make most plays and will score the majority of his goals by driving the net and going to the dirty areas for pucks. Ryan has been a very good complementary player on a very good team this season and his production has continued to increase as the year has progressed.”
