Flames Prospects Hit Calgary Ice Before Rookie Tournament

by admin

The Young Stars Classic is the official kickoff to Calgary Flames hockey. But before the team’s prospects head to Penticton, B.C. for the rookie tournament, they’ll hit the ice in Calgary on Thursday.

WinSport will host the young guns with on-ice sessions starting at 10 a.m. over at Canada Olympic Park.

Goaltenders Waltteri Ignatjew, Matt Radomsky and Connor Murphy will backstop the team against the Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets and Vancouver Canucks prospects.

On defence, the Flames group is highligted by trade acquisition Hunter Brzustewicz and 2024 ninth-overall pick Zayne Parekh. Artem Grushnikov, Eric Jamieson, Henry Mews, Joni Jurmo, Etienne Morin and Axel Hurtig round out the blueline.

Up front, top names include the Flames’ second first-round pick Matvei Gridin, as well as William Stromgren and Samuel Honzek — who both could see time in main camp this month.

Lucas Ciona, Parker Bell, Sam Morton, Andrew Basha, Hunter Laing, Jacob Battaglia, Trevor Janicke, Jaden Lipinski, Luke Misa, David Silye and Luke McNamara will mix in as the forward group.

The Flames prospects will play three games at the Penticton NHL Young Stars Tournament, starting on Friday the 13th against the Jets. They square off against the Oilers on Saturday and the host Canucks on Monday.

All games will be broadcast on the Flames website and on the radio on Sportsnet 960.
