Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Nick Seeler is still experiencing the effects of taking a puck to the foot, and looks to be a bit of a question mark when it comes to the Flyers’ season opener against the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday.

Seeler, who has been referred to as a “human block machine” by coaches, said he was experiencing numbness after the puck hit a nerve in his knee area, but expected to gain feeling back relatively quickly.
This does not look to be the case, as Seeler has not participated in four practice sessions since getting hit in a game against the Boston Bruins on Oct. 1.
There were a couple of instances where he donned full gear and attempted to skate in the beginning of practice, but just as quickly left the ice before the session started.
Assistant coach Brad Shaw confirmed that Seeler’s recovery was taking “a lot longer than we thought,” and that the team doesn’t surrently have a solid timeline on when the defenseman would be able to return to the ice.
“[In most cases], you get the sensation back within minutes or hours at the most,” Shaw said of Seeler’s numbness. “It’s been a few days now, so we’re just playing it day-to-day and we’ll see. It’s just tough. We don’t want to put him on the ice when he doesn’t have a real good sense of where that edge is, so it becomes dangerous.”
Seeler’s had a gear bag packed and ready to go for the Flyers’ flight to Vancouver on Tuesday, so he will be traveling with the team, but it’s not clear what his level of involvement on the ice will be just yet.
