There have been a lot of transactions involving former Pittsburgh Penguins recently, and there was yet another on Tuesday.

After being waived by the St. Louis Blues, former Penguins’ forward Kasperi Kapanen was claimed by the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday.

Kapanen, a right wing known for his speed and shot, was selected 22nd overall by the Penguins in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. He has had a unique pathway in the NHL, as Pittsburgh traded Kapanen to Toronto as part of a package to acquire star forward Phil Kessel in 2015. Over parts of five seasons with the Leafs, Kapanen registered 41 goals and 90 points in 202 games.

Then, in the summer of 2020, Kapanen was traded back to Pittsburgh. He spent part of the next three seasons in Pittsburgh and put up 29 goals and 82 points in 162 games with the Penguins before being waived and picked up by St. Louis in February 2023.

Over the course of his 10-year NHL career, Kapanen has 85 goals and 209 points in 470 games.
