The boys think that the Leafs should wait until after the season to decide what to do with Mitch Marner: Leafs Morning Take

by

The Maple Leafs are dropping like flies.

On Tuesday morning, Fraser Minten was recalled from the AHL and David Kampf was placed on IR with a lower body injury.

That bottom-six looks interesting —that’s for sure.

Personally, I’m pumped to see Minten. With Matthews out and Domi struggling, this team was in dire need of a boost up the middle. We’ll see if the 20-year-old Minten can supply that.

In terms of conversation, it was a mixed bag to kick off the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. We led off by talking about Boston’s struggles and Alex Ovechkin’s dominance before getting into the Minten stuff.

Furthermore, the Leafs returned to the ice on Tuesday for practice after getting Monday off. Of note, Minten, fresh off the recall, was centering the third line alongside Nick Robertson and Pontus Holmberg. Again, no Auston Matthews. We talked about his potential whereabouts.

(Crazy enough, just after the show ended, it was announced that Matthews is currently in Munich seeing a doctor he’s seen before. The Leafs were empathetic in saying that there’s been no setback, but who knows.)

Rosey and I got together for a quick hitter after the show:

As promised, we did spend a lot of time on Tuesday’s pod talking Mitch Marner. He’s on fire. What should the Leafs do with him? It’s always a polarizing debate —regardless of the time of year. In unison, we agreed that Toronto should kick the can down the road. There’s no reason to do it right now. We want to see what he does in the postseason first.

After that, we got to our interview with Pro Poker Legend Daniel Negreanu. He’s a huge Leafs fan. We talked everything from his new podcast with his wife to Berube’s arrival to Marner and Tavares’ future to Ilya Samsonov in Vegas. Hell, we even talked Phil Kessel, too, whom Daniel is tight with. It was a fun interview.

Carter Hutton will be in for Jay Rosehill on the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. First and foremost, we’ll sift through all the latest lineup notes. After that, we’ll tee up Leafs and Golden Knights. Also, we’ll play our interview with Brampton Steelheads netminder Jack Ivankovic. The Mississauga native is expected to be the first goalie off the board in June’s NHL Draft.
