Kahkonen was waived by the Winnipeg Jets yesterday. He never played a regular-season game for the Jets after signing a one-year, $1 million contract.

Avalanche’s starting netminder, Alexandar Georgiev, struggled in his opening game against the Vegas Golden Knights. Georgiev gave up five goals and was pulled in the second period. Their backup goalie is Justus Annunen, a 24-year-old with 19 games of NHL experience.

The Avs are getting a more experienced goalie in Kahkonen, and it will be interesting to see what role the former Sharks netminder plays with his new club.
