Halifax, NS – Dalhousie Tigers men’s hockey head coach Chris Donnelly is pleased to announce the commitment of Alec Belanger for the 2023-24 season.
A versatile 6-foot player who can play both forward and defence, Bélanger played the 2022-23 season with the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He tallied seven goals and 10 assists in his 39 regular season games with the Frontenacs this year. In the 2021-22 season, he played 58 games between Kingston and the Ottawa 67s, netting 10 goals and 16 assists. During the Quebec City, QC native’s OHL career, he has played a total of 185 regular season games and has 83 points to his name.
Off the ice, Bélanger was named the class valedictorian at Blyth Academy The Glebe in 2020. This season, he was nominated for the Bobby Smith Award which recognizes the OHL’s scholastic player of the year, combining their high standards of play and academic excellence.
“I chose the Dal Tigers because of the opportunity to pursue my education in a beautiful city, at a prestigious school where I can continue to play the sport I love,” says Bélanger. “I’m excited to attend Dalhousie and become a Tiger. I am looking forward to helping the men’s hockey team chase a championship and to personally grow as a person and player.”
Bélanger will be studying kinesiology at Dalhousie.
“Alec is a versatile player who can play in any position and in any role required,” says Donnelly. “A high character individual, he is ready to do whatever has to be done to become successful. Over his 4 years, Alec was close to a half point a game during his four-year OHL career, while playing both forward and defence. We will be looking to his offensive ability to provide an offensive punch to our line up and adding his integrity to our program.”
The Tigers look to return to the AUS playoffs this year after just missing out on the action in the 2021-22 season.
The Kingston Frontenacs would like to congratulate Alec Bélanger on committing to @DalTigers next season.
