The UPEI Panthers men’s hockey program has announced the commitment of Kingston Frontenacs alumni Josh Currie for the upcoming 2023-24 AUS season.
With UPEI being known for their physicality and gritty style of play, Currie will bring plenty of that this season with his 6-foot-3, 175lb. frame.
“He is a physical and versatile player, capable of playing all forward positions,” said Panthers head coach Forbes MacPherson. “He has a ton of major junior experience, and some real quality experience with a deep playoff run with Windsor a couple of years ago.”
Currie joins the Panthers after four years in the OHL, which ended in a brief stint with the Haliburton County Huskies of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL). In 142 OHL games, the 21-year-old from Pickering, Ont. amassed 17 goals and 35 assists (17-35-52) between the North Bay Battalion, Windsor Spitfires, and Kingston.
“I’m a team-first guy and I think my experience can benefit the Panthers,” said Currie. “We have to bring it every shift. If we compete and battle each game, I think we’ll turn some heads.”
Currie will be studying psychology at UPEI in the fall.
