Frontenacs graduate Jax Dubois commits to UNBThe defending back-to-back U SPORTS and AUS Champion UNB REDS men’s hockey program announced today that they have received a commitment from former Kingston Frontenacs and Peterborough Petes forward Jax Dubois who will join the team ahead of the 2024-25 season.
“Jax is a big body that plays hard and competes at both ends of the ice,” said REDS’ head coach Rob Hennigar in an article posted on the UNB website. “He brings a winning pedigree after winning an OHL championship with the Petes and is excellent in the faceoff dot. We are thrilled to add him to our group.”
Dubois, a 2003-born centre, was selected by the Peterborough Petes in the 14th round, 273rd overall, in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection. In three seasons with the Petes, he played in 152 games, scoring 32 goals and adding 55 assists for 87 points. The Ottawa, ON, native played in all 23 of the Petes playoff games in 2023, scoring once and adding two assists helping Peterborough to an OHL Championship. In the 2023 Memorial Cup, Dubois appeared in all five Petes games, picking up two assists in the process.
“I am excited to be joining the REDS because of the rich hockey history and all the recent successes they have had,” said Dubois. “I think Coach Hennigar wants me here because he likes players who have experienced playing on championship teams and know what it takes to win.”
On January 7, 2024, the Petes traded Dubois to the Kingston Frontenacs for three draft picks. Dubois finished his OA season in Kingston, scoring 11 goals and adding eight assists for 19 points in 30 games.
Dubois will be joining former Petes teammate Emmett Sproule on the REDS this season, crediting him for being a significant influence in helping him decide to commit to UNB. He will begin classes in the Fall, studying Business.
