Flint, Mich. – The Flint Firebirds announced today that defenseman Grayden Strohack has committed to an Ontario Hockey League standard player agreement with the club.

“Grayden has been having a great season with the St. Marys Lincolns,” Head Coach and General Manager Ted Dent said. “We liked him in training camp and he’s developing into a steady hard-nosed defenseman. We welcome Grayden and his family to the Firebird family.”

The Firebirds selected Strohack in the 3rd round (55th overall) in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection. The 6-foot-3, 183-pound blueliner has played 40 games this year with the St. Marys Lincolns (GOJHL) where he has produced 3 G and 7 A which ranks 5th among all 2006-born defensemen.

“It feels great to have signed an OHL contract,” Strohack said. “It’s a surreal feeling to get an opportunity to live out your childhood dream. I’d like to thank my family, coaches and friends for all of their support along the way in helping me get to this point in my career. I’m excited to get started and to play in front of the great Firebirds fans.”

The 16-year-old left-shot D-man out of Waterloo, Ont. was selected by Flint out of the Waterloo Wolves U16 AAA (Alliance) where he produced 21 Pts. in 27 GP, the 3rd most among defensemen.

Scouting Report from Head Scout Mike Oliverio: “Grayden has good size and moves well. He transitions quickly with a good first pass out of his own zone. He also has a good stick and is always closing off passing lanes as well as anticipating and reading the play well which helps make him strong in the defensive zone. His hockey IQ allows him to pick his spots when he activates offensively. He is also a team-first guy, who always supports his teammates.”
