Akim Aliu’s Work Continues
Akim Aliu can add the title of co-author to his list of accomplishments.Â
The veteran player and co-founder of The Hockey Diversity Alliance announced the launch of his new graphic novel based on his life, set to be released next February.Â
The book is titled Akim Aliu Dreamer: Growing Up Black in the World of Hockey and co-authored by Haitian-American author Greg Anderson Elysée and will be published by Scholastic and Kaepernick Publishing (created by NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick). The book will tell the story of Akim’s journey, from being raised in a Ukrainian-Nigerian family to assimilating to Canadian culture and dealing head-on with hazing and racism within hockey.
The reception to the news of the book has been overwhelmingly positive and is already one of the most pre-ordered releases on Amazon.
