Ales Hemsky returned to Alberta, the Denver Broncos got some time with the Stanley Cup and a last-second goalie pull pays off in the KHL. Here’s a look at some of the best moments from the past week.
Ales Hemsky Donned an Oilers Jersey Once Again
One of the reasons to watch the Edmonton Oilers in the 2000s and 2010s was Ales Hemsky, and this past weekend, he returned to Alberta for the first time in many years to don an orange and blue jersey.
In Lloydminster, Alta, Hemsky took part with various Oilers and Flames alums in the Boundary Battle of Alberta game, where players from different eras of both teams’ took part in the fun event. In Hemsky’s case, it was the first time he wore an Edmonton jersey since his trade to Ottawa back in 2014.
Judging from the fans, players, and Hemsky himself, it was fun to see him back wearing the colors of a team he helped carry among many years of them being Western Conference underdogs.
Logan O’Connor Brings the Stanley Cup to the Denver Broncos
The travels of the Stanley Cup continue, and it has finally made its way back to Colorado.
Logan O’Connor brought the Cup to hang with another team looking to soon add another title for their franchise, as the Denver Broncos had the chance to be with Lord Stanley.
If bringing the Cup around the Broncos works, Denver-based sports teams might never return the trophy.
Pulling The Goalie In Overtime Is Becoming A Trend In The KHL
The KHL has taken pulling the goaltender for an extra attacker to a place rarely before explored. Earlier this year, CSKA head coach Sergei Fedorov pulled his netminder for an extra attacker in overtime, which he’s no stranger to.
It appears other teams are giving it a shot, with AK Bars Kazan pulling it off in the most dramatic fashion yet this past week.
You’d be laughed out of a Hollywood studio if you scripted a movie with a team scoring in this fashion. The question now remains: What team will be bold enough to pull their goalie in overtime of a playoff series?
