As first reported by former NHLer Matt Murley, the Boston Bruins are close to hiring Jim Montgomery as the team’s 29th head coach.
The Bruins fired Bruce Cassidy after six seasons this year, with Cassidy leading the team to a Stanley Cup final in 2019.
Montgomery has two years of NHL coaching experience, leading the Stars during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons. In late 2019, he was fired from the Stars due to inappropriate conduct and checked himself into rehab due to alcohol abuse. Montgomery was brought in as an assistant with St. Louis for the past two seasons in what has been a long road to recovery for the 53-year-old.
