Owen Sound, ON – The Owen Sound Attack are announcing that Assistant Coach/Assistant General Manager, Joey Hishon is moving on from the organization to pursue other opportunities.
“My time in Owen Sound has been an absolute pleasure,” Hishon said. “First as a player, then having the opportunity to join the organization as a staff member was a dream come true. The fans are the best in the league and I cannot thank them enough for all the support over the years.”
Hishon was originally hired by the Attack in the summer of 2018 as a regional scout and skills development coach, but was promoted to Assistant Coach/Assistant General Manager in January 2019. The executive hire came seven years after Hishon graduated the Attack program as a player, where he was a star offensive force from 2007-2011, cultivating in a OHL Championship in 2011.
“I’m very excited for my new opportunity and look forward to the new challenges ahead of me,” Hishon said of moving on. “Hockey is in my blood and to be able to continue to have a career in the game is something I am incredibly grateful for.”
Drafted 4th overall in 2007, the Stratford native’s time as a player in Owen Sound was special, as Hishon is 3rd in career goals (110), 5th in career assists (145) and 3rd in career points (255) all time by Attack players. He took his gifted offensive talents and translated them into a skills coach, not only for the Attack, but also starting his own summer skills camp (@skills_corp), where he has worked with Attack alumni and current NHLer Nick Suzuki.
“He was always great with the skills development of the young players,” offered Attack General Manager Dale DeGray. “We are truly going to miss him in Owen Sound, but wish him all the best as he moves forward with his career.”
Though moving on, Hishon will always remember his times in Owen Sound, both as player and coach, looks forward to watching the young team continue to develop and push for a championship.
“Owen Sound will always be a second home to me. My wife, son and I spend a ton of time in the area during the summers and this will never change,” exclaimed Hishon. “The future is so bright in Owen Sound and I truly believe the opportunity to win again is in the near future. Again, thank you all so much for the support. Owen Sound will always have a special place in my heart.”
