Kraken Can’t Complete Comeback; Lose 5-3 To The Golden Knights

The Seattle Kraken took a 5-3 loss at the hands of the Vegas Golden Knights despite a dominant performance by Jagger Firkus.

Berkly Catton, Alexis Bernier, Lleyton Roed and Ty Nelson were integrated into the Kraken lineup for the first time in the tournament. Victor Ostman started in goal after Niklas Kokko put on a stellar display in the 5-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche.

The Golden Knights opened the scoring in the first period with a power play goal by Braeden Bowman.

The Golden Knights got the scoring started early in the second period after Ben Hemmerling slid a neat pass to Jakub Brabenec. Daniil Chayka then dropped the gloves with Nathan Villeneuve. Viliam Kmec fired a point shot to extend the Golden Knights lead to 3-0. Jacob Mathieu pounced on a turnover by the Kraken and scored a short-handed breakaway to make it 4-0. Jagger Firkus was sprung on a 2-on-1 with Villeneuve he made no mistake finishing his chance to make it 4-1. Firkus picked up his second assist after a Caden Price point shot was deflected in by Tucker Robertson.

With just over eight minutes remaining, Firkus registered his third point of the game with a goal to bring the Kraken within one goal. Matyas Sapovaliv scored into the empty net to clinch the win for the Golden Knights.

The Kraken’s tournament is now complete finishing with a 1-1-0 record.
