Philadelphia Flyers rookie Matvei Michkov is expected to play against the New York Rangers tonight in the rookie game.
The Flyers and Rangers’ rookies are set to compete against each other tonight at the PPL Center and all eyes will be on Michkov.
The 19-year-old was selected by Philadelphia with the seventh overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft.
After a year in the KHL where Michkov recorded 19 goals, 22 assists and 41 points in 47 games, he is set to make the transition to the NHL.
Michkov is a gifted offensive talent to say the least and his intangibles are off the charts. Now he has an opportunity to show all of that in his first game as a Flyer.
“First game in a Flyers jersey, and I’m a little bit nervous,” Michkov said via NHL.com. “But by the time warmup is over, that should be all gone.”
While most rookie games are usually overlooked, Michkov will certainly draw more eyes to this game and really bring a new element to the night for fans.
