Michelone, Donoso join hometown teams in separate Monday moves

The Windsor Spitfires and Ottawa 67’s will both have a local talent on their goaltending depth charts when regular season play resumes this week.

The Spits claimed overage goaltender and Windsor product Max Donoso off waivers from the Ottawa 67’s, while separately trading 19-year-old netminder and Kanata resident Ian Michelone to the 67’s in exchange for a 12th round pick in 2026.

Donoso, who has been with the 67’s since 2021-22, went 51-29-3-7 in Ottawa, helping the Barber Poles win the Hamilton Spectator Trophy as the first place team in the OHL last season. Ottawa selected Donoso in the fifth round (98th overall) of the 2019 OHL Priority Selection.

Currently looking to break out of a six-game losing slide, the 67’s have overhauled their overage scenario, with centreman Braeden Kressler acquired from the Flint Firebirds, bluliner Samuel Mayer coming in from the Peterborough Petes and forward Jacob Maillet coming over in a separate deal from Windsor.

Michelone has played parts of three OHL seasons since being selected by the Flint Firebirds in the second round of the 2021 OHL U18 Priority Selection. He’s played to a mark of 5-7-2-1 in 17 games with Windsor this season.
