The Montreal Canadiens have won the Shane Wright sweepstakes.

The Canadiens, who are hosting the 2022 NHL draft, won the draft lottery on Tuesday evening, securing the No. 1 pick for the selection process in July.

Montreal had the best odds at 18.5 percent, and was guaranteed at least a top three pick.

Wright, a center, is the top projected prospect for the draft after a strong season with the Kingston Frontenacs. Wright was granted exceptional status into the OHL in 2019 after a dominant minor hockey run with the Don Mills Flyers.

Logan Cooley of the USNTDP, David Jiricek from Czechia and Slovakia’s Juraj Slafkovsky are among the other top prospects.
