HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Soaring Eagles opened the scoring just over a minute into the contest as Morgan Mordini ’22 found the back of the net after taking a pass from Emma Bradbury ’26 to make it 1-0. Mordini again found the puck on her stick after a battle in front of the net to give the Purple & Gold a 2-0 advantage. Her tally at the 8:15 mark of the first period would be assisted by Mary McCafferty ’22 and Holley Riva ’23.
Hamilton would find an answer at the 13:40 mark of the frame to get onto the scoreboard as Allie Curry found the back of the net to trim the deficit to 2-1. The Soaring Eagles would take a 2-1 advantage into the intermission despite several good scoring opportunities late in the frame.
It would be McCafferty who would give Elmira a 3-1 advantage at the 6:28 mark of the second period after deflecting a loose puck over the shoulder of the goalkeeper. Jenny Heath ’22, who took the initial shot, would be credited with the assist on the play for the Soaring Eagles.
The comeback for Hamilton would start with a goal at the 8:25 mark of the frame as a goal would trim the deficit to 3-2 before a tally at the 9:04 mark knotted the score at 3-3. A Lydia Bullock goal at the 10:40 mark would prove to be the eventual game-winning tally for Hamilton as it put the visitors ahead on the scoreboard 4-3.
Hamilton would add two more goals at the 11:59 mark of the second period and an insurance goal at the 10:19 mark of the third period. The Soaring Eagles had just a pair of power-play opportunities in the contest as Hamilton would successfully kill both in the third period as the Purple & Gold looked for some momentum. Hamilton finished 0-for-4 with the extra skater in the contest as the victory was the first in program history for Hamilton against Elmira.
Leonie-Louise Kuehberger ’25 turned away 25 shots in the contest for Elmira while dropping to 8-4-0 between the pipes this season for the Purple & Gold. At the other end of the ice, Evie Sheridan made 31 saves to give Hamilton another victory on the season against a ranked opponent.
