The Nashville Predators have had a rough start to the season and haven’t figured it out just yet.
The team started the season with 66.6% odds of making the playoffs according to MoneyPuck, but those odds have plummeted after a five game losing streak and zero points. The Predators are last in the NHL and have gone from the 13th best odds to the 19th best at only 40.5%.
The original projections had Nashville finishing with 97 points, which is down from last season’s finish of 99 points, surprisingly after all of the big additions. After just five games and two weeks, the Predators’ projected points sit at 90. That is not good enough to make the playoffs.

Nashville is now projected to finish 10th in the Western Conference, but the team also started 5-10-0 last season. If the Predators can go 5-5-0 over their next 10 games, they are no worse off than last season and have better players to close out the final 65+ games on a high note.
Not every team that started strong will stay there and there will be other struggling teams who also turn things around. Despite the Predators’ poor start, teams projected to finish with more points and higher in the standings than them sit outside of a playoff spot right now as well. The Edmonton Oilers, Colorado Avalanche, and Vancouver Canucks each have just two wins while the Vegas Golden Knights are ninth place in the conference.
Any team can have a poor five-game stretch like the Predators are experiencing. Once the new stars and lines settle in, the team is going to turn things around. It could start as soon as Game 6. The Predators are fighting an uphill battle, but it’s not something that they aren’t used to.
They went on three runs of winning at least six games in a row last season. That’s something this team is fully capable of pulling off as well. The turnaround better start soon as the odds aren’t in Nashville’s favour, but there’s a lot of time left in the 2024-25 season.
