New Avalanche Goalie Makes Debut In Tough Situation Against Sabres

by admin

Jared Bednar, Head Coach of the Colorado Avalanche, said after Saturday’s game that there were concrete plans to see Scott Wedgewood start at some point this week. Pretty sure this wasn’t the situation Bednar imagined seeing Wedgewood in action with the team for the first time.

Starter Alexandar Georgiev saw seven shots in the first 12 minutes of the game against the Buffalo Sabres and allowed four goals. After the fourth goal, courtesy of Beck Malenstyn, Georgiev was pulled to the bench and Wedgewood came in as relief.

Wedgewood was 1-2-1 in four starts with the Nashville Predators. He held a SV% of .878 and a GAA of 3.69. He’s had eight seasons of NHL experience, giving the Avalanche a backup goaltender with more experience than former backup Justus Annunen, who was dealt to Nashville in return for Wedgewood.
