At the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, the Philadelphia Flyers selected forward Jett Luchanko with the 13th overall pick. With this decision, the Flyers went off the board, but that does not mean this selection will be a mistake. Luchanko has the potential to be an impactful NHL player for many years.

Luchanko is coming off an excellent year with the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). In 68 games, he posted 20 goals and led the Storm with 54 assists and 74 points. When noting that he had only five goals and 14 points in 46 games for the Storm in 2022-23, the 5-foot-11 center took a giant leap forward this past season. Now, his goal will be to continue to head in the right direction with this development.
Luchanko has garnered immense praise for his blistering speed and puck-moving ability, which should make him a valuable asset to the Flyers’ power play later down the road. He is also hard on the forecheck and is well-known for his high IQ on the ice. Thus, he has the potential to make an impact not just with his offense but also in his all-around game.
With the Flyers needing help down the middle, picking up a promising youngster like Luchanko could end up being a home run for them. The London, Ontario native will now look to improve his game in 2024-25 from here. If he keeps progressing in the right direction, he could become a strong piece of the Flyers’ roster in the not-so-distant future.
