Three more games were played on Sunday to wrap up a busy weekend across the Premier Hockey Federation.
Minnesota Whitecaps 5, Buffalo Beauts 3
The Whitecaps offense picked up right where it left off and led the league’s third place team to a second straight win and six-point weekend sweep over the Beauts. Five different goal scorers did the damage for Minnesota including Brooke Madsen who opened the scoring and Brittyn Fleming who ended it, each with their first career PHF tallies. Sydney Brodt and Sidney Morin both scored their fifth goals of the year, with Brodt’s recorded on the power play. Jonna Albers’ seventh of the year came shorthanded and held as the game-winner. Grace Klienbach scored Buffalo’s first goal to cut the deficit to 2-1 which is as close as the Beauts would come. Claudia Kepler’s fourth of the year came on the power play to make it 4-2, and Courtney Maud’s first career tuck was also scored with the advantage to make it 5-3. Amanda Leveille stopped 25 shots in the win, and Tera Hofmann turned aside 32 in her first start since signing a contract for the remainder of the campaign.
Connecticut Whale 6, Metropolitan Riveters 0
The Whale climbed into fourth place ahead of the Riveters with their second six-goal outburst in three games. It’s also their second shutout of the season, with Meeri Raisanen joining teammate Abbie Ives in that category with a 23-save performance. Offensively, Taylor Girard recorded the first four-point game of her career with two goals including the winning tally just 1:10 into the contest plus the team’s second goal scored on the power play. She also assisted on the third and fourth goals by Caitrin Lonergan and Emma Keenan. Katerina Mrazova added a pair of third period goals to round out the scoring. Eveliina Makinen got the start between-the-pipes for the Riveters but was pulled after the first period in favor of Katie Burt. Both goaltenders allowed three goals against.
Toronto Six 3, Montreal Force 2
Toronto reclaimed first place in the PHF standings with a second straight 3-2 decision over Montreal to win the weekend series five points to one. It was also their fifth straight victory and extended their point-streak to nine games. Emma Woods scored the first and last T6 goals to give her seven on the season, while Emma Greco chipped in the first of her career in the seesaw affair. Alexandra Labelle scored for the third straight game and Ann-Sophie Bettez notched her fifth of the season. Both second period Force goals tied the game before Woods’ winner. Elaine Chuli stopped a career-high 44 shots for her seventh win of the year. Tricia Deguire made 28 saves in the loss.
