Reigning OHL Defenceman of the Year Pavel Mintyukov made his NHL debut in Vegas on Saturday night, suiting up for the Anaheim Ducks at the age of 19.
Mintyukov made the Ducks’ opening night roster and skated in 17:58 minutes of action, recording a shot, three hits and two blocks. The left-shot defender was Anaheim’s first round (10th overall) pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.
Mintyukov played two seasons in the OHL between the Saginaw Spirit and Ottawa 67’s, piling up 150 points (41-109–150) in 136 regular season games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-19. In 2021-22 he became the first blueliner to ever lead the Spirit in regular season scoring and was voted to the league’s third all-star team. He followed that up with a league-leading 88 points among blueliners in 2023-24, being voted the league’s top blueliner as he was honoured with the Max Kaminsky Trophy presented annually to the OHL Defenceman of the Year.
