Ottawa, ON – The Ottawa 67’s announced, today, that they have received a commitment from 2023 second-round draft pick Nic Whitehead.

“We are excited that Nic and his family have chosen to continue his development with the 67’s,” said Ottawa General Manager James Boyd. “Our fans will appreciate the combination of speed and skill that Nic displays on a consistent basis.”

Whitehead, 16, was selected in the second round, 23rd overall, by the 67’s in the 2023 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection. The Orlando, Florida native arrives by way of the Mount St. Charles 15U AAA program, coming off of a season in which he scored 37 goals and 40 assists, for 77 points in 51 games.

During the 2022-23 USA Selects-15 tournament, Whitehead suited up with Team White. He went on to lead the tournament in scoring, with 11 points (six goals, five assists) in four games.

OHL Central Scouting says: Nicolas is a speedy centre that is always moving and putting pressure on the opposition. He is explosive off the mark and has a top gear that not many others his age do. He has a very good skill set that allows him to take on defenders one-on-one and create scoring chances. He is a smart player that makes good pass/shot decisions especially on the power play, where he can draw defenders to him and make a good pass to set up a teammate. He is a good 200-foot player that works as hard in his own end as he does with the puck.”
