Throughout the off-season, the Ontario Hockey League will be spotlighting a member from each of our teams’ front office staffs as we look to highlight those working “Behind the Scenes” of the day-to-day operations.
The newest edition features Sudbury Wolves Manager of Marketing, Miranda Swain-Boivin.
MSB: My name is Miranda Boivin. I am the Marketing Manager for the Sudbury Wolves and SWSE and I have been with the team as a full-time employee since 2012. I am a graduate of Laurentian University’s Sports Administration program and started with the club in 2008 as a game day volunteer, before becoming a co-op student and eventually being hired in 2012. I started out as group sales and marketing assistant, before being quickly promoted to Office Manager and taking over the management of the Wolves season ticket holders in addition to other tasks. I was promoted to Marketing Manager in 2018.
What are your responsibilities as the Sudbury Wolves Marketing Manager?
MSB: My responsibilities include overseeing the team’s Marketing, PR and Communications, Ticketing, Community Relations and Game Night initiatives. I have a great team that I work with to help put these tasks into action. We also work very closely with the sales, concessions, merchandise and sport operations departments to assist them with anything they require.
What has been your most memorable marketing campaign with the Wolves?
MSB: My most memorable marketing campaign would be the campaign we ran around the 2019 playoff run which we had themed after Game of Thrones and the “Playoffs are Coming”. We had a lot of fun activating our promotion around the theme especially as it was during the height of the popularity of the show. We morphed this theme into assets for traditional promotions and advertising like radio ads as well for our social and digital assets. I also really enjoy planning some of our special theme nights. A few successful ones that come to mind that stand out include our Shoresy themed jersey night and Indigenous Celebration Game from last season. I will also never forget when we launched our superhero jerseys back in 2016, the first CHL team to do so.
What led you to your current role?
MSB: I started to have an interest and passion for the business side of hockey and the OHL in high school when I started volunteering with the Owen Sound Attack. I knew then that I wanted to work for an OHL team one day and took every opportunity to make that happen. When I arrived in Sudbury for university, the staff in Owen Sound connected me with the Wolves. I worked hard, had a positive attitude, took advantage of every opportunity I was given, waited for the doors to open and worked my way up.
Since joining the organization in 2011, what has been the most fulfilling part about working for the Wolves?
MSB: I’m not sure if I can only pick one part. Working for the Wolves, I very much enjoy getting to be involved in the community in such a special way. We are creating special experiences for fans and a place that members of the community can gather, cheer together and bring smiles to their faces. We also get to give back to the community. I enjoy that every day is a new adventure and that it has allowed me to meet so many great people in the community, including the wonderful staff I have worked with along the way and great fans I have had the opportunity to meet.
What is something that you look forward to building on next season?
MSB: I think our team developed a very strong theme schedule last year and achieved a number of sell out nights. So, we are really hoping to build on that progress and that success we had last year to keep that momentum going.
