EDMONTON — Connor McDavid is a magnificent hockey player.
The Edmonton Oilers captain has 983 career points, 335 of which are goals. For someone who has scored so many goals at the highest level of hockey possible, it seems impossible that someone could keep all of their goals straight.

But if you asked him, he’d say you never forget your first.
For McDavid, his first goal in the NHL game was on this day nine years ago, October 13, 2015. The Oilers played the Dallas Stars, and he scored off of a deflection in front of the net.
Nail Yakupov and Benoit Pouliot were McDavid’s wingers that game. His goal deflected past Kari Lehtonen to tie the game at 2-2.
It was a much different Oilers team with Peter Chiarelli behind the helm instead of Stan Bowman. The weight on McDavid’s shoulders wasn’t as heavy as it is today.
McDavid has scored many highlight-reel goals in his career. One was an equally memorable between-the-legs goal, once again against the Stars (number eight on the below career highlight video).
McDavid is only 27 years old, so there is plenty of hockey left for him to play before he hangs up his skates. He has enough time to score more goals worthy of highlight reels.
With 80 games left in the 2024-25 season, he could easily pocket north of 40 goals this year alone.
