Otters sign second round pick Lucas AmbrosioErie, Pennsylvania – The blue line just got stronger; #25 overall pick Lucas Ambrosio officially signed his Ontario Hockey League Scholarship and Development Agreement with the Erie Otters.
“I’m excited to be joining a great franchise with a legacy of amazing Otters alumni. It is a dream come true to play in the OHL and wear the Otters jersey.” said Ambrosio, “I can’t wait for the season to get started.”
General Manager Dave Brown announced the signing today as the second-round pick in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection Draft becomes the second member of the Otters Draft Class to commit – following the signing of Tyler Challenger earlier this week.
“We feel thrilled and excited to welcome Lucas to our organization. His strength and size, combined with his excellent role awareness, make him and outstanding defender.” said Brown, “Lucas’ commitment to playing a tough and demanding game perfectly matches our organization’s values, and we are delighted to play a role in both his immediate and long-term development on and off the ice.”
Ambrosio, a 6’3, 176lbs. defenseman, appeared in 31 games last season with the Toronto Jr. Canadiens U16 AAA program in the GTHL where he contributed 20 points. Erie director of hockey operations Scott Grieve noted Ambrosio’s ability as a strong defensive-minded blueliner
“Lucas is a big, strong, shut-down defenseman.” said Grieve, “[He] plays physical and makes the game hard on opponents.”
The 16-year-old will join an Erie defensive group alongside Matthew Schaefer and Spencer Sova looking to build off of last season’s fifth-place finish in the OHL’s Western Conference.
The Erie Otters are thrilled to officially welcome Lucas Ambrosio home to the Flagship City, and see what the power forward can bring in the Fall.
