The 2024-25 NHL season is underway with the Global Series in Prague, Czechia, with a two-game matchup between the New Jersey Devils and Buffalo Sabres.
In celebration of the league’s connection to Czechia, former Pittsburgh Penguins superstar Jaromir Jagr dropped the ceremonial puck in Game 1 on Friday.
Jagr, who is 53, still plays professionally in the Czechia league with Kladno. He has two points, a goal, and an assist through seven games.
The former Penguins captain had his No. 68 retired by the organization in February 2024. He remains the fourth-highest scorer in team history with 1,079 points and ranks only second behind Wayne Gretzky in NHL history with 1,921 points.

Although the Devils and Sabres kicked off the regular season on Friday, the Penguins wrapped up their pre-season action with a 7-3 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets and now wait to face the New York Rangers on Opening Night at PPG Paints Arena on Wednesday.
