Each two-time World Junior gold medalists with Canada’s National Junior Team, Peterborough Petes forward Brennan Othmann, Quebec Remparts forward Nathan Gaucher and Kamloops Blazers forward Logan Stankoven are all in pursuit of the same prize at the 2023 Memorial Cup presented by Kia.
Othmann has been a roomate of both players in their past World Junior quests, with one coming in August 2022 in Edmonton, Alta., and the most recent being this past December and January in Halifax, NS.
Each member of the trio looks to join an elite list of 25 past CHL players to have won both a Memorial Cup championship along with a World Junior gold medal in the same season, with Saint John Sea Dogs forward William Dufour being the latest to join that list.
Othmann and Petes teammate Owen Beck are looking to become the eighth and ninth OHL players to accomplish the ‘triple crown’ of a World Junior gold, OHL championship and Memorial Cup title all in the same season, looking to join past players to do so in Olli Juolevi (London 2016), Cam Fowler (Windsor 2010), Ryan Ellis (Windsor 2009), Corey Perry and Danny Syvret (London 2005), as well as Mike Craig and Eric Lindros (Oshawa 1990).
