Sharks Prospect Set To Become Canada’s No. 1 WJC Defenseman

by admin

Sam Dickinson is playing like the best defenseman in Canadian Junior hockey, and the San Jose Sharks top prospect was named to Team Canada’s preliminary 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship roster.

Dickinson is third in the league in scoring as a defenseman. He is only behind potential 2025 No. 1 picks Michael Misa and Porter Martone for scoring for the entire OHL. In 24 games, Dickinson has 15 goals and 30 assists.

Dickinson had a terrific draft year with 70 points (18 goals, 52 assists) in 68 games for the London Knights. His strong two-way game helped him become the No. 11 pick at the 2024 NHL Draft.

After an excellent offensive season in 23-24, Dickinson has exploded onto the scene as arguably the best defense prospect in the entire NHL.

Dickinson and three fellow Knights teammates—Philadelphia Flyers prospects Denver Barkey, Oliver Bonk, and Toronto Maple Leafs forward Easton Cowan—are headed to Canada’s roster selection camp.

The tournament will take place from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5 and is being hosted in Ottawa.
