Soaring Eagles Drop Close 2-1 Decision on Friday to #10 Norwich

NORTHFIELD, VT. – The Elmira College Men’s Ice Hockey team dropped a close 2-1 decision to the hosts from Norwich University on Friday evening, as Brendan Schultz ’24 scored the lone goal for the Soaring Eagles.

After a scoreless first period, the Purple & Gold were first to break into the scoring column as Schultz scored at the 11:35 mark of the second period on assists from Jake Russo ’23 and Shawn Kennedy ’24. Just five minutes later, the Cadets were able to score on a power-play opportunity after Christian Abrams ’25 was sent to the box on a tripping call. Just 1:03 later, it was Johnny Johnson who scored for the Cadets and knotted the game at 1-1. 

In the third, after a scoreless 14 minutes, it would be Paul Schmid who would score the game-winner for Norwich, as neither team was able to find any offense over the final six minutes of play. 

Elmira goaltender Kyle Curtin ’26 would be credited with the loss in net, despite making 36 saves in net compared to Cadets goaltender, Drennen Atherton, who made 24 saves.
