UTICA, N.Y. – A goal by the No. 6 ranked Adrian College Bulldogs with less than 30 seconds remaining in overtime thwarted a potential season-opening victory for the No. 12 ranked Elmira College women’s hockey program on Friday night at the Utica University Kickoff Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Neither team would light the lamp in the opening 20 minutes of action as the Soaring Eagles held a 10-7 advantage in shots on goal against the Bulldogs.
- The Soaring Eagles opened the scoring 2:30 into the second period as McKenzie Schmidt ’25 beat Adrian goalkeeper Annie Gilbert to make it 1-0. MK Boyle ’26 and Sophie Compeau ’25 would be credited with the assists on Schmidt’s first goal of the season.
- Adrian would make the most of its lone power-play opportunity in the contest as the Bulldogs converted with the extra skater at the 12:13 mark of the second period to knot the score 1-1.
- Elmira would take its second lead of the contest just over four minutes into the third period as Emily Lenzen ’24 netted her first goal for the Soaring Eagles. Mo McBride ’27 helped to set up the scoring opportunity for the Purple & Gold.
- The Bulldogs would not go away easily as they battled to net the equalizer at the 17:13 mark of the third period to make it 2-2. Adrian would complete the comeback with less than 30 seconds to play in overtime as the Bulldogs found the back of the net to secure the 3-2 victory.
- Elmira finished the contest with a 29-27 advantage in shots while going 0-for-2 on the power play. EC goalkeeper Leonie-Louise Kuehberger ’25 recorded 24 saves in the contest, while Claire Meeder ’23 paced the Soaring Eagles with 13 wins in the face-off circle.
UP NEXT: The Soaring Eagles are back in action on Saturday and will play in the consolation game of the Utica University Kickoff Tournament. The contest will begin at 4:00 P.M. with the Soaring Eagles facing either No. 13 Utica or Suffolk.
