PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The third-ranked Plattsburgh State Cardinals netted four power-play goals en route to capturing a 7-0 victory over fourth-ranked Elmira College on Sunday in the consolation game at the Cardinal/Panther Classic.

JUST THE BASICS:
SCORE: Elmira 0, Plattsburgh 7
LOCATION: Plattsburgh, New York | Stafford Ice Arena
TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (7-2-0, 6-0-0 NEHC), Plattsburgh (8-1-0, 6-0-0 NEWHL)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Soaring Eagles would bring early pressure to open the contest as they registered a pair of shots on goal within the first minute before getting a power-play opportunity just under two minutes into action. Elmira would take a pair of shots with the extra skater but would be unable to find the back of the net.

Plattsburgh capitalized on its first power-play of the contest as Nicole Unsworth found the back of the net at the 9:38 mark to give the Cardinals a 1-0 advantage. It looked as though the Soaring Eagles would head into the intermission trailing by a goal until the Cardinals scored with 1:55 left on the clock to make it 2-0.

The Cardinals would strike for a pair of power-play tallies in the second period to extend the lead to 4-0 over the Purple & Gold. Plattsburgh increased its lead to 3-0 at the 10:45 mark with an unassisted goal before making it a perfect 3-for-3 with the extra skater to go up 4-0 at the 13:51 mark.

Three more goals would be added by the Cardinals in the third period with Plattsburgh adding its fourth goal on the power-play at the 18:44 mark of the final frame to complete the scoring at 7-0. Elmira would get three power-play opportunities of its own in the third period and six overall in the contest but couldn’t solve Plattsburgh netminder Lilla Nease in the shutout.

Leonie-Louise Kuehberger ’25 suffered the loss for the Soaring Eagles after allowing four goals and making 21 saves through two periods of action. Alayna Breivogel ’25 would take over for Kuehberger to start the third period and allowed three goals to go along with eight saves.

UP NEXT:
The Purple & Gold turn their attention back to NEHC play with a pair of matchups on the road against Plymouth State (12/2) and Castleton (12/3). Puck drop between the Soaring Eagles and Panthers on Friday is slated for 6:00 P.M.
