The University of Toronto Varsity Blues announced via Twitter on Tuesday that overage Saginaw Spirit forward Danny Katic has committed to their menâs hockey program for the 2021-22 season.
A native of South Porcupine, Ont., the 6-foot-4 winger suited up for parts of four OHL seasons in Saginaw and amassed 23 goals and 67 points over 170 appearances with career highs in goals (13), assists (23) and points (36) in 2019-20. An eighth round pick in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection, Katic was drafted out of the Timmins Majors program and spent time with the GOJHLâs Fort Erie Meteors before joining the Spirit.

âI chose U of T because of the great academics but also because the hockey program has really taken off under Coach Medel and I think he can help me get to the next level,â Katic told VarsityBlues.ca. âI look forward to developing as a player towards a pro career, and winning a national championship with all the guys.â
Katic will pursue social science at U of Tâs Woodsworth College and will be joined on the ice by fellow OHL graduates in Sudbury Wolves forward Owen Robinson and defenceman Emmett Serentsis.
