St. Louis Blues reduce training camp roster by 10

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. — The St. Louis Blues announced today they have assigned eight players to their juniors teams, including defensemen Quinton Burns (Kingston, Ontario Hockey League), Lukas Fischer (Sarnia, OHL), Matthew Mayich (Ottawa, OHL), and Will McIsaac (Spokane, Western Hockey League); forwards Adam Jecho (Edmonton, WHL), Tomas Mrsic (Prince Albert, WHL), Juraj Pekarcik (Moncton , QMJHL), and Jakub Stancl (Kelowna, WHL). Also, goalie David Tendeck and forward Jake Gudelj have been released from their tryouts.

“I think as a whole group, they’ve been here for almost two weeks playing games,” Blues coach Drew Bannister said. “They’ve had opportunities in development camp and the rookie tournament and then to come here and kind of each get them in a game and see how they play. I think as a group, there was no disappointments. A few of the kids I thought surprised me a little bit. I was really happy with Mrsic’s game. I thought he played, he’s really smart, made some great plays. Pekarcik, these guys are big bodies. But they’re going to take time. They’re still 18, 19 years old. There’s going to be a couple of years, at least, for development for them. But I think overall, we’re really happy and the ‘D’ in Dallas (Saturday’s 2-1 preseason loss), that’s a tough task for anyone to go in there, but the young ‘D’ came in and I thought they played outstanding.”

With the cuts, training camp has been reduced down to 53 players.
