by

FRISCO, Texas — Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that the club has signed defenseman Christian Kyrou to a three-year entry-level contract. The contract will begin in the 2023-24 season.

Kyrou, 19, has split the 2022-23 season with the Erie Otters and Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), earning 67 points (18-49–67) in 56 regular-season contests. He posted 36 points (8-28–36) in 27 games with the Otters and has 31 points (10-21–31) in 29 contests with the Sting, who acquired him on Dec. 14, 2022.

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound blueliner ranks second among OHL defensemen in assists (49), third in points (67) and fifth in goals (18). He also co-leads OHL d-men in game-winning goals (5), shares second in first goals (3) and ranks second in power-play assists (25).

Kyrou was named OHL Player of the Week for the week ending March 5 after leading the Sting to a 3-0-0 record and a berth in the 2023 OHL Playoffs with seven points (2-5–7) and a +6 rating.

A native of Komoka, Ontario, Kyrou was voted the Western Conference’s Most Underrated Player in the 2021-22 OHL Coaches Poll after posting 60 points (18-42–60) in 68 games with Erie during the 2021-22 campaign. His 60 points were the most by an Otters defenseman since Darren Raddysh in 2016-17 (81 points in 62 GP) and ranked fourth among league rearguards.

Selected by Dallas in the second round (50th overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft, Kyrou has 127 points (36-91–127) in 145 career regular-season games with Sarnia and Erie.
