Storm hire OHL alumnus Rob Davison as Associate CoachGuelph, ON – Guelph Storm General Manager George Burnett announced today that Rob Davison has been named Associate Coach of the hockey club for the upcoming season.
“Rob has a proven track record, both as a player and a coach, working with and developing young defensemen. More recently Rob has continued his work developing and mentoring top young prospects.” said Burnett. “We are pleased to add Rob to our staff.”
Davison, a native of St. Catharines, ON, is joining the Guelph Storm after spending five seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs organization as an Assistant Coach for the AHL’s Toronto Marlies. While in Toronto, Davison was part of the coaching staff who captured the 2017-18 Calder Cup. Before his time with the Marlies, Davison spent a season behind the bench as an Assistant Coach for the KHL’s Dinamo Minsk and two seasons as an Assistant Coach for Austria’s EC Salzburg, where his team won back-to-back League Championships.
Prior to his coaching career, the former defenseman spent three seasons playing in the Ontario Hockey League with the North Bay Centennials, where he recorded 6 goals, 34 assists for 40 points and 544 PIMs in 185 regular season games. After being selected by the San Jose Sharks in the fourth round of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Davison went on to play fourteen years of professional hockey, which included time with the NHL’s San Jose Sharks, New York Islanders, Vancouver Canucks, and New Jersey Devils.
