Too little, too late for the Kings in Calgary

The Scotiabank Saddledome remains an unfriendly venue for the Los Angeles Kings. They have now dropped 5 consecutive games to the Flames in Calgary, averaging just 1.5 goals per game in the last four of those contests.

California native and former LA Jr. King Dustin Wolf shined in net for the Flames, stopping 28 of 29 shots. Even on the goal that beat him, it looked like Wolf had made a spectacular save. Upon review, it was determined that Trevor Moore’s shot had crossed the goal line a second before Wolf’s glove swatted it away.

The Kings were slow right out of the gate, conceding the first seven shots of the game. They would go on to generate very few quality looks in the first period. In the second period, the Flames broke the ice with two quick strikes, scoring on consecutive shots just 36 seconds apart.

Kings’ defenseman Jordan Spence put both goals on the LA defense:

Late in the third period with Kuemper on the bench, Moore fired a quick shot from just outside the crease that looked to be miraculously stopped by the glove of a sprawling Wolf. After video review, it was determined that the puck crossed the line. For Moore, that made it goals in back to back games and hopefully, another step toward scoring consistency.

The Kings had their first powerplay of the night on the scrum that ensued after the goal, but they couldn’t beat Wolf on the 6-on-4. Calgary added the empty netter to seal the game at 3-1.

The Kings drop to 9-5-3 on the season, but can hold onto first place in the Pacific Division with a Vegas loss. This marks the 5th consecutive defeat they have suffered in Calgary. Next, the Kings travel to Denver for a Wednesday night matchup against the Colorado Avalanche at Ball Arena, where they have just 2 wins in their last 8 visits.
