Toronto Maple Leafs Sign Marshall Rifai to Two-Year Extension

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced they have signed defenseman Marshall Rifai to a two-year contract with an average annual value of $775,000 beginning in 2025-26.

Rifai spent last year with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies, notching 19 points in 57 games, he scored three goals and had four points in Toronto’s short-lived Calder Cup playoff run.

In his 126 career AHL games Rifai has 35 points and has become a reliable all-situations player for the Marlies.

The 26-year-old also played his first two career NHL games with the Maple Leafs last season in a third-pairing role.

The Beaconsfield, Quebec, native joined the Leafs organization on an AHL contract in March 2022 after four seasons at Harvard University. He had 21 points in 71 career NCAA games.

Rifai is under contract for the 2024-25 season and the extension will kick in the season after, Toronto’s willingness to commit two more years to him well in advance of his free agency shows they have belief in his ability to appear in NHL games and play big minutes for the Marlies.
