Two Second-Period Goals Propels No. 11 Elmira to 3-1 Victory against UMass Boston

BOSTON, Mass. – Anna Lugge ’27 netted her first collegiate goal in the second period to push the No. 11 Elmira College women’s ice hockey program past UMass Boston, 3-1, on Saturday in New England Hockey Conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Holley Riva ’23 opened the scoring for Elmira at the 15:29 mark of the first period with a shorthanded goal to make it 1-0.
  • The tally was Riva’s fifth career shorthanded goal which ties her with Katie Granato ’19 and Eliza Beaudin ’22 for fourth all-time in program history.
  • Lugge would extend Elmira’s lead to 2-0 at the 7:13 mark of the second period to notch her first collegiate goal for the Purple & Gold. Emily Lenzen ’24 added her second assist of the contest for Elmira on Lugge’s goal.
  • Alayna Toole ’26 pushed the Elmira advantage to 3-0 at the 14:16 mark of the second period with a power play goal. Toole’s fourth goal of the season; and second of the weekend, would be set up by Erika Goleniak ’25 and Katie Manning ’25.
  • The Beacons tallied their lone goal of the contest at the 13:01 mark of the third period to break up the shutout bid for Elmira goalkeeper Leonie-Louise Kuehberger ’25.
  • Kuehberger made seven saves on eight shots faced for Elmira while improving to 4-2-0 on the season. In goal for the Beacons, Leah Bosch made 31 saves on 34 shots faced.
  • The Soaring Eagles finished the contest 1-for-5 on the power play, while UMass Boston finished 0-for-3. Elmira recorded 21 shots with the extra skater, while UMass Boston tallied two shots on its three opportunities.

 
UP NEXT: Elmira returns to the ice on Saturday, December 9th with a matchup against Nazareth University at the East-West Hockey Classic, which is hosted by Norwich University.
