The Winnipeg Jets look to avoid their second straight loss and get back in the win column Friday when traveling to Vegas to take on the Golden Knights.
The Jets are coming off a troublesome loss Wednesday versus the LA Kings, where they again struggled to start the game on the right note. It resulted in sluggish first and second period in which they fell behind 2-0 and couldn’t catch up.
The Golden Knights are starting to heat up as they’ve won five of their last eight games and have won seven straight games over the Jets, including three straight wins at home.
It’s been tough sledding for the Jets on their six-game road trip as they’ve split the first four games. They’ve dropped two of their last three games and would love to bounce back with a big win on Friday. Both teams roll out prolific offences with the Jets and Golden Knights ranking third and fifth in goal per game averages respectively.
Winnipeg holds the upper-hand on the defensive end however, as they have the second-best goals against average in the NHL at 2.43 compared to Golden Knights average at 3.00 so far this season. Vegas has begun turning things around on the backend as of late with two or fewer goals allowed in three of their last four games.
The matchup net may be an early look at two goaltenders likely to represent their country at the upcoming Four Nations tournament. Winnipeg’s Connor Hellebuyck is a lock for the starting job for Team USA after securing a 15-3-0 record this season with a league-best 2.11 goals against average.
Vegas goaltender Adin Hill is highly speculated to be the starting netminder for Team Canada after recording a 2.83 goals against average with nine wins in 15 starts this season.
The BC native has made things difficult for the Jets in the past after winning all four of his career starts against them and recorded a 2.70 average in the process.
