Wolves hire Berehowsky and Desjardins as Assistant Coaches

Wolves hire Berehowsky and Desjardins as Assistant Coaches(Greater Sudbury, ON) – The Sudbury Wolves announce that Drake Berehowsky and Andrew Desjardins have been hired as the clubs Assistant Coaches heading into the 2024-2025 season.
“We are very excited to add both Drake and Andrew to the Sudbury Wolves staff,” said Wolves VP and General Manager Rob Papineau. “Drake came in at the end of last season and really connected with our players especially our defensemen. His experience playing and coaching will greatly benefit our players and team. He is a great person who is a hard worker and believes strongly in players being accountable to each other and the team first. Andrew is fresh off an outstanding career where he went from an undrafted player to a Stanley Cup champion. His passion for the game and commitment to hard work and buying into a team’s culture and systems allowed him to be a great pro and team leader everywhere he played. We strongly believe our players and our program are in great shape with adding Scott, Drake, Andrew and Michael to make up our coaching staff.”
Drake recently joined the hockey club as a Defence Coaching Consultant late this past season, during the 2024 playoffs. Prior to that, Drake was the Wolves Associate Coach handling the team defence in 2015-2017. During the 2016-2017 season with the Wolves, Berehowsky went on to accept the position of Head Coach in the ECHL with the Orlando Solar Bears. He then went on to be the Head Coach and General Manager of the Solar Bears for the following five years.
“I am extremely excited to be working back in Sudbury,” said Berehowsky. “I really enjoyed the end of last season and getting to know and work with each of the players. I am looking forward to working with Scott and helping him and the team bring a championship to the city.”
Andrew Desjardins from Lively, Ontario who grew up playing hockey for Rayside-Balfour and Espanola before getting drafted to the Soo Greyhounds of the OHL. Andrew went on to play 4 years in the OHL playing 278 games for the Greyhounds prior to a long professional career including 7 years in the NHL as an undrafted player and an additional 7 years playing professionally in Europe. During the 2014-2015 season Andrew hoisted the NHL Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks.
“Being from Sudbury, I am truly honoured and excited to come home and join the Sudbury Wolves,” said Desjardins. “I’m looking forward to working with Scott and the rest of the coaching staff, to help bring this team to the next level. Thank you to the Wolves organization for giving me this opportunity and I can’t wait to get started.”
Wolves Head Coach Scott Barney expressed, “Being able to add Drake and Andrew are huge additions to not only our coaching staff but more importantly the development of our players into the future. Both these Gentleman have been in our players shoes before, and both have been where they all want to go next “
Rob Papineau added, “Our players all want to win a championship and get to the NHL. Our new coaching staff has extensive experience with what our players want to accomplish. They have played over 1,000 NHL total games and over 650 OHL games. On our bench we have one OHL Championship, one Stanley Cup Championship and we have a former Jack Ferguson winner and CHL defenceman of the year.”
The Sudbury Wolves would like to thank both Rick Dorval and Gary Ricciardi for all their contributions and the club wishes them continued success with their careers.
