CORTLAND, N.Y. – The SUNY Cortland Red Dragons rallied from a 1-0 deficit to defeat the No. 12 Elmira College women’s ice hockey program on Tuesday night at Alumni Arena. Elmira would get its goal from Claire Meeder ’23 early in the second period, while Ainsley Delacourt netted the eventual game-winner in the third period.

JUST THE BASICS:
SCORE: No. 12 Elmira 1, SUNY Cortland 2
LOCATION: Cortland, New York | Alumni Arena
TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (11-5-1, 8-1-1 NEHC), Cortland (12-3-1, 7-2-1 SUNYAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Elmira would strike first as Claire Meeder ’23 took a pass from behind the net just 16 seconds into the second period and beat the goalkeeper to make it 1-0. MK Boyle ’26 and Erika Goleniak ’25 added the assists on Meeder’s goal.
  • The Red Dragons wouldn’t play from behind for long as they would head to the power play just over two minutes into the frame. Cortland would convert with the extra skater at the 3:45 mark to knot the score 1-1.
  • With the game tied through the opening six minutes of the third period, Cortland would take advantage of an extended position in the offensive zone and eventually find the back of the net at the 6:09 mark to take a 2-1 advantage.
  • The Soaring Eagles would keep their foot on the gas pedal with a barrage of shots on frame but would be unable to supply the equalizing goal in the final frame. Elmira would get a late power play opportunity at the 17:29 mark only to see an interference call just four seconds later bring on a 4-on-4 situation.
  • Elmira finished the contest with a 32-17 advantage in shots while going 0-for-2 on the power play. Leonie-Louise Kuehberger ’25 finished with 15 saves in net for the Soaring Eagles, while Cortland netminder Molly Goergen stopped 31 shots to guide her team to the victory.
