The Ottawa Senators have traded forward Connor Brown to the Washington Capitals in exchange for a 2024 second-round pick.
Brown, 28, had 39 points with the Senators last year, building upon an incredible World Championship performance with Canada in 2021. Brown had a career-high 43 points with the Senators in 2019-20, and, with the right linemates in Washington, could hit the 40-point mark again.
The move comes after the Sens brought in Claude Giroux and Alex DeBrincat, which somewhat pushed Brown down the lineup. The Senators have a good young group, but was an easy player to move thanks to his cap-friendly $3.6-million deal for one more season.
It’s a sizeable loss for the Senators, but a nice pickup for a Capitals team, who, essentially, get a solid third-liner in the system that can handle top-six duties if needed.
