The hockey world is steeping with content as we say goodbye to September and welcome to October. From a mascot unveiling to a record-setting performance, we take a look at three things that caught our eye.
The Seattle Kraken Finally Unveiled Their Mascot
Finally, after much waiting and hilarious speculation, the Seattle Kraken have a mascot.
After 18 months of development, Buoy was unveiled during the Kraken’s pre-season game against Vancouver this past weekend. Buoy was inspired by the local Freemont Troll sculpture, but it was given a kid-friendly twist.
If there’s one thing I can say about Buoy, he’s going to have to work on the dance moves to last the entire season, because the near spill in the video displayed below can’t be a constant thing.
Either way, it’s cool to see the newest NHL team finally join the list of teams with a quirky mascot.
Records Are Made To Be Broken At All Levels of Hockey
After an eight-point explosion this past week, you’d be wise to keep your eyes on Harry Nansi. The 2023 OHL prospect set a new single-game record with his performance this past Wednesday in Hockey Eastern Ontario U-18 AAA play for the Nepean Raiders in Ottawa.
A three-point first period came before an incredible third period where he recorded five points in Nepean’s 8-2 win. This record probably could have hit the double digits if it wasn’t for a scoreless second period.
An outstanding night for a player that we hope to see more of as his young career develops.
The NHL’s Return To Milwaukee Had A Packed Arena
This past Sunday saw the first NHL game in Milwaukee, Wis., in almost 30 years. When the Chicago Blackhawks squared off with the Minnesota Wild, it looked like there wasn’t an empty seat at the Fiserv Forum to be had.
Milwaukee last featured NHL hockey in a regular season matchup between the Washington Capitals and Detroit Wings in March 1993. The Caps won 4-2 in the Bradley Center, the former home of the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks which was demolished in 2019 across the road from the Fiserv Forum.
A very cool sign as Milwaukee has a long-standing history in the sport, and who knows, maybe one day this could be a future NHL market.
