Ex-Flyers Goalie On Fire With Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs currently have a 13-6-2 record and are at the top of the Atlantic Division standings. A significant reason for their early-season success has been the play of former Philadelphia Flyers goalie Anthony Stolarz.

Stolarz, 30, signed a two-year, $5 million contract with the Maple Leafs this past off-season, and it is looking like a complete steal early on. The 6-foot-6 goalie currently has a 7-3-2 record, a 2.18 goals-against average (GAA), and an NHL-best .927 save percentage (SV%).

This is certainly excellent play from Stolarz, and the Maple Leafs are benefitting greatly from it. Stolarz has also been very consistent, as he has a .900 SV% or better in 10 out of his 12 appearances this campaign. He also recorded a 29-save shutout against the Boston Bruins on Nov. 5.

Stolarz also had a wonderful 2023-24 season with the Florida Panthers. In 27 games with the reigning Stanley Cup champs, he had a 16-7-2 record, a .925 SV%, and a 2.03 GAA. Thus, he has hit a new level in recent years.

Stolarz was selected by the Flyers with the 45th overall pick of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. In 19 games as a Flyer, he had a 6-4-4 record, a .911 SV%, and a 2.86 GAA.

Stolarz’s time with the Flyers ended during the 2018-19 season when he was traded to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Cam Talbot. In four games as a Flyer, Talbot had a 1-2-0 record, a .881 SV%, and a 3.70 GAA.
