The start of the NHL season and a fresh PWHPA Dream Gap Tour gave the hockey world plenty to chat about as October rolls along:
Ryan Reaves’ Punch Creates an Incredible Image
Two of the toughest men in the NHL, Ryan Reaves of the New York Rangers and the Minnesota Wild’s Marcus Foligno, re-introduced themselves by engaging in some fisticuffs last week.
While the fight had many fans on their feet, when it comes to sports photography, there won’t be many images better that you can capture mid-fight than one of Reaves landing a right hand on Foligno.
The Star Tribune photojournalist Aaron Lavinsky deserves a standing ovation for this picture, which is one of the best action shots you’ll see this season.
Dwayne Johnson Electrifies the Fans at Scotiabank Arena
Did you smell what ‘The Rock’ was cooking? You were probably at the Maple Leafs’ home opener on Thursday night if you did.
WWE legend and one of the biggest names in Hollywood, Dwayne Johnson, is currently on a world tour to promote the movie Black Adam. During his Toronto stop, he came by the Leafs game, which sent the Scotiabank Arena crowd into a frenzy.
His appearance was so big even players on the ice noticed during the television timeout when he appeared, as Auston Matthews pointed out in a fantastic quote captured by our own Mike Stephens.
Hopefully, no fans post-game were checked into the Smackdown Hotel by Johnson.
Another Day, Another Amazing Marie-Philip Poulin Goal
The 2022-23 PWHPA Dream Gap Tour kicked off this weekend with games in Montreal as covered by THN.com’s Ian Kennedy, and the tour’s first stop provided a highlight reel goal.
Team Canada superstar and member of Team Harvey’s Marie-Philip Poulin helped Harvey’s to a 3-2 shootout win over Team Sonnet, and you have to watch her goal to open the shootout more than once.
Just when you think you can say you’ve watched Poulin do everything there is to pull off, she pulls this goal out of her bag. Amazing.
