Bruins are one point away from making NHL history originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston
The Boston Bruins can make NHL history with a positive result in Thursday night’s game against the Buffalo Sabres.
With a league-best 47-8-5 record, the B’s have 99 standings points through 60 games played. If they reach the 100 mark on Thursday, they will become the quickest team ever to do so.
Boston’s current best is 63 games, which it achieved during its 1971-72 Stanley Cup championship season. The NHL record for quickest to the 100-point mark is 62 games set by the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens.

Bruins’ trades give them the toughness, tenacity needed for 2023 playoffs
The Bruins are riding an eight-game win streak into Thursday’s action. With 22 games left on the schedule, they’re currently on pace to finish the season with the best NHL regular-season record ever.
As great as the B’s have been, general manager Don Sweeney has done his part to make them even scarier heading into the NHL playoffs. Ahead of the March 3 trade deadline, Boston has acquired defenseman Dmitry Orlov and winger Garnet Hathaway from the Washington Capitals and traded for Detroit Red Wings winger Tyler Bertuzzi. On Thursday morning, the team announced the signing of star David Pastrnak to an eight-year contract extension.
